There is no line and no definates between black and white, just various shades of gray. It is the same with art. There is no right and wrong about what is art; it is all about tastes. One person's taste for art is much different than another person's. Does that mean that the ones who like the piece of art are wrong? No. Does that mean that those who hate the piece of art are wrong? No. It just means that we all have different tastes in art.
When one finds a piece of art that they do not like, one should just move on. That artwork is not harming the viewer and any harsh words harms the artist themselves. There is a difference between a hateful opinion as well as a constructive critique.
The hateful opinion in some eyes is a critique, however when one states that something is not art, who does that harm? The artist themselves. What does the writier of said opinion gain for themselves? Does it make them feel better? In most eyes, it makes the one who gives those hateful words a bully. The constructive critique is when words of advice are given when something is seen to be wrong in the piece of art and one offers a suggestion on how to make it better. That is the difference between the two, and that is how one makes the art community a better place for all instead of a place where there is snipping at one another.
Artist note:
I had originally started out drawing this picture to say that closemindedness was ugly, but it just turned out to be different, and I thought that I should make a different sort of point.
Grayscale and black and white seem to fit this piece because I don't think that it needs color.
I am not telling anyone how to think or be, just giving my views.
This takes on a much more realistic look than the rest of your art, a differnet style that I think is a rather nice outcome; it looks a bit more refined. I especially like the hair detail, and that of the collar and sleeve ends on the shirt; all very subtle touches that end up adding to the realism feeling even more; excellent work ^_^.
And the description states a message that I think is important for all; there are too many flame wars that go on because some people don't like a peice, and decide that they must be the great adjudicators to pass judgement, as if what they think will sway any opinions whatsoever. Although it'll probably never happen because of the way that system is handled now, I think that this belongs in the daily favorites box so that each and every person here could see this message, and realize that there is no point in demeaning an artist's style or choice of subject. As it is, this is going in my 'daily favorites' box, so to speak.
Thank you, sometimes when I get rather emotional, I choose to just vent in different ways, this time it was a need for the wacom style of drawing and just let what flowed out flow out.
And thank you for the kind commentary yourself on the commentary itself. It is good to see more views on the subject.
I like this.
To me it says "not everything is just black and white" which is ironic in itself since the image is B/W.
I love this Pixie huzza, and you draw humans beautifully, something i could never do.
Thank you, Pink huzza, I'm glad you like this *hug* and I'm glad you caught the Irony in it. and from what I've seen in your gallery, and what you have shown me, you do pretty good.
Like I said before, I can't really look at the picture for very long.. The pattern in the background just sets off a whole bunch of stuff in my eyes..like one of those Magic Eye books..only it's instantainious...which leaves me feeling like my brains are melting out my ears..
But the message in the description sends an insteresting contrast..esspecially while my brain was in that mashed potato consistancy.. There is no black and white or white and black. Only an infinite spectrum of grays.
...though that funky pattern does make my eyes perceive there being explosions of color..

Hey, I've almost always had that veiw on things. At least for as long as I can remember.. There' no black and white.. Only grayscale. ...unless you're getting into bitmap images..

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
Have a great time everyone and please fav this article so as many people can see the featured works. I would recommend seeing each one and faving them too.

I could have done better with the eyes themselves, she does look too much like a zombie because of her eyes.
